2005 Finalists

Twelve semi-finalist teams made private presentations to judges on Monday, May 23 and 26 at WPI. Four teams were selected to move on to the finalist round on June 14, 2005 at WPI at the annual Business Plan Contest program. The finalists are:

Nimbit Services is turning artistic excellence into business success in the $7B independent music industry, with a vertically integrated, web-based system of tools for the over 4 million independent artists in the U.S. market. Nimbit enables artists to produce, promote, and sell their music through its proprietary easy-to-use Nimbit Dashboard(tm) , which will become the trusted branded industry standard.

Patrick Faucher, President & CEO

Prior to founding Nimbit, Patrick was responsible for developing the E- commerce technology and R&D team for Stumpworld Systems, launching BuyItOnline.com, which led to the acquisition of the company in 2000, at a value of over $60 million. Mr. Faucher spent several years developing interactive solutions for companies such as Computerworld (IDG), Navisite Inc, and Polo Ralph Lauren. Over the past 15 years, Mr. Faucher has performed around the globe and across the U.S. as a professional trumpet player, arranger and vocalist. An Honors Graduate of Berklee College of Music, Patrick has also completed studies in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Philip Antoniades, COO & Chairman

With over 20 years of experience in the music industry, Philip has owned a record label, managed nationally touring artists, worked as a producer and toured nationally as a professional drummer. In the early 1990's, he started a CD duplication business and in 1996 founded Artist Development Associates Inc., offering mastering, manufacturing and promotion services for independent artists. In 1997 he launched CDFreedom.com, in order to provide online retail and fulfillment of CD's and merchandise. Philip is an honors graduate of Berklee College of Music.

Scott Cohen, VP Sales & Finance

Scott brings over 20 years sales and marketing experience, having previously founded Progressive Sales and Marketing, Inc., a food market brokerage which he built to over $75MM in sales. Mr. Cohen's focus on marketing for CDFreedom.com resulted in 100% increases in Q3/2003 and Q4/2003 over the previous year.

Design Medical's CEO, Douglas E. Vincent

Design Medical, Inc.

Design Medical, Inc. has developed a solution for heart surgery that reduces complications, improves patient outcomes, and saves hospitals money. Our solution has the potential to save U.S. hospitals up to $2 billion per year. The patent-pending technology may also reduce mortality from heart surgery by 50%, and was conceived and designed to have significant performance, safety and reliability attributes over other potential approaches to developing truly physiologic flow.

Mr. Vincent has been a key project, design, and technical leader in the launching of sophisticated medical pumps over the last 14 years, including the Baxter HomeChoice(tm) Peritoneal Dialysis Machine. He shares 8 patents and patents pending. He has been successful at innovative design strategies, building winning teams, and significant product development ROI. (BS-ME, MIT 1989)

Brian Key, 40, Co-Founder, VP Operations & Controller

Mr. Key has over a decade's experience in Information Technology, operations, and finance. Formerly at DEKA, he was a co-inventor of the IBOT Transporter and the Segway for which he shares 4 patents. (BS-CS, UMass Lowell 1988)

Enginivity, LLC

Enginivity LLC is a start up medical device company and is developing the 21st century IV Fluid Delivery System technology, eFlow(registered). The eFlow system integrates fluid flow control, air in-line detection and fluid warming. The eFlow system is scalable to serve the entire fluid warming, rapid infusion and re-warming market. The eFlow system is safer, more effective and less expensive than present technologies.

Advanced Radiation Therapy is developing a novel treatment approach for women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer who elect Breast Conserving Therapy. The market for breast cancer treatment exceeds $1B annually with over 211,000 women diagnosed each year in the United States alone. The technique allows the clinicians to provide a superior radiation therapy without additional capital investment while at the same time offering an accelerated and far more patient friendly procedure.

Piran Sioshansi, Ph.D., President & CEO

Dr. Sioshansi has been an innovator in the medical device industry for over 20 years, has been awarded over 25 patents, and has been a special consultant to the IAEA and an appointed member of the National Materials Advisory Board of the National Research Council. Prior to Advanced Radiation Therapy, he was co- founder of RadioMed Corporation having successfully stewarded a revolutionary new radiation source for prostate brachytherapy.
