Worcester, MA - August 23, 2004 - Tom Sherwin, Founder and President of CEO Resources, will discuss how to successfully occupy the top of the corporate ladder at the October 12th meeting of the WPI Venture Forum. A public speaker and professional seminar leader, Sherwin created and moderated the Smaller Business Association of New England's highly successful "CEO Roundtable Series" for 10 years and has chaired the "CEO Resources Forum," now in its sixth year. He has provided advice and counsel to CEOs as they and their companies move from one plateau to the next. His presentation will offer tips and guidance for those seeking to achieve a leadership position.
Previously, Sherwin was a senior executive with extensive hands-on experience in early stage and Fortune 200 environments with medical device companies American Hospital Supply, Surgicot, G. D. Searle, Whittaker General Medical, and Electro-Biology. He served as president of Surgicot Flexible Packaging, and Founder, CEO, and Chairman of Osteo-Technology, Inc. He also completed a term as interim CEO and chairman of the board of Maasdam Pow'R-Pull, Inc.
Case Presentation: Acteon Technologies
Following Mr. Sherwin, the case presentation will be Chris Lorch, CEO and Co- founder of Acteon Technologies, Inc. (Westford, MA), a developer of financial applications for the mid-market company. A former controller of mid-sized high tech companies, Lorch was frustrated by the lack of tools available to him during his planning process. Acteon's flagship product, Acteon BudgetGuide, provides a more comprehensive budgeting tool that helps mid-sized companies deal with numerous locations, multiple currencies, different accounting systems, different cultures, Sarbanes/Oxley, and more.
The WPI Venture Forum meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at the Odeum Campus Center on the WPI campus in Worcester, MA. Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Registration cost is $10 individual, annual and lifetime members; and $20 nonmembers.
About the WPI Venture Forum
The WPI Venture Forum was created in 1990 to promote the entrepreneurial spirit and to serve those who engage in technology- based entrepreneurial enterprises by providing advice, support and education tailored to meet their needs. The forum fosters entrepreneurship through such activities as monthly programs, a business plan contest, a weekly radio show on News Radio WTAG (Saturdays, 5-7 pm, 580am), and a monthly newsletter.
The Venture Forum, as part of the Collaborative for Entrepreneurship & Innovation in the Department of Management at WPI, serves individuals who are seeking to begin their own technology-based businesses; founders, presidents, and senior managers of start-up or early-stage companies; senior managers of companies that are restarting or making a transition for one mode of operation to another; and employees leaving large companies due to a reduction in force or to start businesses.
